This forthcoming American action movie, is now scheduled to be released on June 12, directed by Tony Scott is the restyled version of the original 1974 film that bears the same name and the 1998 telly-version, all based on the highly successful suspense novel by Morton Freedgood.
Denzel Washington depicts the life of a subway dispatcher, Walter Garber, in New York City, going around with his usual chores of the day, when he becomes aware of the disturbing news of a massive hijack attack on a subway train is in on its way being led by an unscrupulous quartet, Mr. Grey being the most belligerent one, headed by the devious Ryder played by John Travolta. The heavily armoured hijackers are threatening to end lives of the passengers unless their unreasonable demand to cough up a ransom of one million dollars per person in the span of just one hour is not fulfilled.
Walter Garber effortlessly dons the protagonist role as he tries to get hold of the situation by making ample use of his in-depth know how of the subway system. With surmounting pressure, Walter tries settling the hijack situation in bringing the said ransom in an attempt to prevent any escalation in the situation. Garber tries to use every trick in the book including proposing his own surrender to Ryder in barter system- like manner for the freedom of the captured passengers in the train.
Meanwhile, Gandolfini of the Sopranos fame who plays the role of the mayor Bernard Ryder, in this tight situation and how he handles the crisis.
The movie is chock-a-block with thrilling action sequences, suspense, high-end drama, the use of the state-of-the-art gadgetry like GPS, thermo-imaging, laptops not seen in its previous film adaptations.
In the mean time, the conundrum that Garber fails to decipher is even if the mugs manage to get hold of the ransom, how can they get away from this situation unscathed.
The movie is bound to keep one hooked to their seats with its jaw-dropping action shots and heightened air of trepidation that looms high through the movie.
