Film Director Roman Polanski arrested in Switzerland on a US arrest warrant as a guilty verdict of sexual assault with a 13-year-old girl. Polanski decided to pay the victim $500,000 fifteen years after he fled. In October 1993, director Polanski had agreed to have a confidential deal with the victim however, the court document does not reveal whether he had ever paid.
Later it was disclosed because of the struggle to get a filmmaker to pay. Court records in August 1996 stated Polanski owned Ms Geimer $604,416.22 including interest. Polanski was arrested in Switzerland as he traveled from France to collect a lifetime achievement award at the Zurich Film Festival. The director of legal representative and lawyer of director David Finkle commented that he could not remember the details of case. Polanski was accused of having an unlawful sex with an underage girl; victim was provided with champagne and drugs during a modeling shoot in 1977. Originally, he faced charges including rape and child molesting but director begged guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse. He left US shortly before his sentence in1978 and has not returned the country since then. Samantha Geimer and his family were finding it hard to comment. Geimer sued Polanski in 1988 when she was 25 years old in December 1998 on the charge of sexual assault, emotional distress, and seduction. However, she requested US court to drop the case charges due to the continued publication of details caused injury to her family self-respect. The arrest of Polanski provoked a protest among the politicians and Hollywood celebrities. Arnold Schwarzenegger California’s Governor said the filmmaker should not get special treatment. US prosecutors said film director had been on an Interpol of wanted list for years. Filmmakers including actor signed an appeal expressing disappointment at Polanski arrest.
