After being approached by delegations from several countries to celebrate its tenth jubilant year in their capital cities, IIFA has finally zeroed in on the Macau city of China for 2009, which will be the ideal congregation point for film fraternities from India, China and Hong Kong , thus reinvigorating the decades old catchphrase, indo-chini bhai bhai. IIFA has been functioning in close association with the Macau administration with regards to the three-day festive event being held at splendorous ‘The Venetian’, commencing on the 11th June.
Amitabh Bachchan, the brand ambassador of IIFA, spoke quite passionately about his association with IIFA and how IIFA has beautifully emerged through 9 long years and mentioned about his future ventures. He was among the first to cast his vote during the voting weekend, which is so unique to this event. He stated plans to rope in the entire cast and crew of Slumdog Millionaire in the IIFA 2009 event.
A number of films will be premiering during IIFA like Kaminey, Aladin in close consultation with the producers who were involved in the multiplex ban and a few more movies are being seen to be shown.
IIFA has always attached great significance to the environment issues like global warming with green events endorsed by celebrities, to create global impact, continues this trend into the current year too. It has been rolling out a green carpet rather than the usual red one, in keeping with this ‘go green’ theme. It will present the unique ‘Green IIFA’ award to a film personality who has done commendable work in the field of generating mass environment awareness.
Also in the offing is the special award of the ‘Best of the Decade’ for five well-liked categories like Best Actor, Actress, Director, Film and Music composer.
One can expect sizzling performances by Sonam Kapoor, Ravishing Kareena Kapoor doing a belly dance number, Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan and last but not the least the Big B, to site a few. The uproarious acts of hosts Riteish Deshmukh and Boman Irani, last year, will continue this year too, with renewed vigour, as Lara Dutta adds the glamour angle.
Videocon and Panasonic, the two major consumer electronics firms, also the co-sponsors of IIFA, are planning to promote their green theme products on this platform. In commemorating the preeminent, there are ’The Lifetime Achievement Award’ and ‘The Videocon IIFA Golden Decade Honors’, which will be presented at the IDEA IIFA Awards 2009.
The three day event commences with day one having the globally famed performances of Cirque du Soleil and ZAIA which is a dance-acrobatic extravaganza. The second day will see business tycoons from China, Macau, Hong Kong congregating for the FICCI IIFA Global Business Forum, with the prime objective to tackle key issues of the economic crisis and converting adversity into opportunity. Also in the offing are the Film Media briefings, IIFA Fashion Extravaganza and IIFA Workshop. The penultimate day will see the award function taking shape.
