Aishwarya’s intense performance in the movie was evidently overshadowed by Priyanka Chopra’s eclectic feat in ‘Fashion’ for which she won the Best Actress Award. Priyanka effortlessly donned the role of a juvenile small town actor trying to maintain her sanity in the big bad glitz world with great panache. Her classic performance surpassed those of fellow runners like Bipasha Basu, Asin and Katrina Kaif. Kangana Ranaut won the award of the best supporting actress role for ‘Fashion’ where she played the role of an eccentric fazed model as she goes through the whirlwind of ups and down of stardom.

There were a string of films which were rightful contenders to the awards like ‘Race’, ‘Dostana’, ‘Rock On’, ‘A Wednesday’ and Ghajini. These movies won accolades for several individual categories. Arjun Rampal was visibly elated to get the best supporting actor award for ‘Rock On’ where he was portrayed as an upcoming guitarist going through the trial and tribulations in the path to stardom.

‘A Wednesday’- a thrilling unusual take on terrorism won Neeraj Pandey the best story and the best scriptwriter award. Akshaye Khanna received the award for best negative role in ‘Race’. Asin won the best newcomer award for her acting prowess in ‘Ghajini’, while Farhan Akhtar received the Best Male Debutant for his film ‘Rock On’. Abhishek Bachchan’s amazing comic tuning in Karan Johar’s ‘Dostana’ garnered him the award for best actor in comic role.

Rajesh Khanna, the ruler of the film roost in his prime time won the Lifetime Achievement Award. Rakesh Roshan beamed from side-to-side as he received the Director of the Decade Award. Shreya Ghoshal won the Best Playback singer female for her singing marvels.

Despite the dearth of time for preparation, Aishwarya Rai’s electrifying performance definitely was praiseworthy. Abhishek kept the tempo high as he gyrated to several tunes. Although John Abraham could not make it due to a fracture, Bipasha Basu the thorough professional that she is was present for the fashion extravaganza and gave a power-packed show for her fans. Bipasha Basu won the Style Diva Award and looked hip in a stylish blue number. Peter Andre gave a memorable performance as he sang some mesmeric tunes accosted by the dancing finesse of the Shamak Davar Dance troupe.

The event was hosted by Sophie Chaudhary and Zayed Khan who did their scripted best to keep the tempo high through the show. The show commenced with the Videocon sponsored mobile phone company unleashing their upcoming, top-of-the-line two models of cell phones that were personally signed by Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor with the purpose of being auctioned for collecting money, the proceeds of which are forwarded to the less fortunate workers in the film making line who have faced mishaps in the due process.

Sonam Kapoor looked sylphlike in the splendid flowing skirt and embroided top designed by Anamika Khanna. Diya Mirza blazed the ramp in a traditional white lehenga by Manav Gangwani, while Bipasha stole the show in a splendid subtle shade traditional outfit designed by Rocky S. Neil Nitin Mukesh in a black suit and Mughda Godse in an electric blue single shoulder gown were the show-stoppers for Siyaram later on joined by Madhur Bhadarkar who is the director of their upcoming movie ‘Jail’.

Neha Dhupia shone in a gold-green gown that was quite tastefully done and also showcased fine jewellery from D’damas. Raima Sen was seen wearing the D’damas brand. Amrita Rao was seen wearing a pretty off-shoulder black dress and delicate jewelery escorted by none other Arshad Warsi.

An amazing sight and finale was that of the fab-pair of Hrithik-Susanne that scorched the ramp elegantly carrying off pristine, feminine jewelery of Farah Ali Khan.

Manav Gangwani creations were aptly showcased by the hunk-duo of Madhavan and Dino Morea who was wearing a white suit. The Hong Kong designer Chris Chang effectively displayed her creations based on children.

Also called on the stage was the cast of ‘Do Knot Disturb’ with the likes of Govinda, Sushmita Sen and Vashu Bhagnani, David Dhavan. Definitely a show held par excellence with a laudable cause to back it up.

A frequent sight is the single-shoulder fashion trend picking up significant momentum with this being incorporated in fitted dresses, tops to delicately drape flowing gowns with Roman-Greek overtures.  Many fashion houses seem to have tugged at the bow theme this summer with larger-than-normal sized bows making their presence felt on the ramp. Bling and shimmer seems to be big this year, with chic embossing of jewels like precious to semi-precious gems, cut glass, crystal work on jacket, bangles, neck-pieces, earrings, anklets, day-time dresses, coats, tops, tunics. Bizarre or traditional, sparkler covered clothing are a definite hit this 2009.

One saw a lot of celebs sporting the bandaged look in dresses with snugly fitted, short-strappy dresses with single-shoulder pattern. Famed names like YSL, Paul Smith have favoured the Afro-Oriental look this summer with animal prints on tops, asymmetrical skirts in colours of nature like green, browns.

Inner wear has come to the forefront as outer wear, with sleek tights, leggings, stockings becoming a favoured lineage that is bound to transcend way up to 2010.Wardrobes based on stylish basics with contemporary, no-hassle look with body structured silhouettes many times mistaken as the alternate skin are bound to stay for quite a while.

As the chill will eventually set in, the Over- the- knee or Over-the-thigh boots in stylish suede and innovatively styled leather, will definitely be taking centre stage at many occasions. One can expect checks to make a big splash this fall with sober effect. One can expect overcoats in furs, good-quality fabric volumes make for the snugly effect. One can expect fabrics in delicate-weaved, compact, multi-weave variety with vivid patterns to gain significant focus this year end. Eco-paly fabrics like cotton are definitely on the top of the checklist. Frilly Laces, rich soft materials like velvets, silk, jersey in varied hued shadings, add the essential delicate womanly touch.

One can expect Technicolor influences in tweeds and checks. With hip prints, varied coloured denims, reused yarns creating dramatic effect are bound to make a bold statement this year.
