The Gibson Amphitheater bore witness to a host of out of the blue moments in what seemed like a crazed roller-coaster ride, on the event of the MTV Movie awards, 2009. Twilight seems to be the highlight of the show, having congregated the maximum of 5 golden popcorns in its kitty, after stiff competition with Slumdog Millionaire. Bruno (aka Sacha Baron Cohen) definitely was the icing on the cake, during his presentation of the best male award. The prolific, profligate, Cannes film festival lifted off with grand pageantry with the endless A-listers like Quentin Tarantino, Sharon Stone, Ang lee, Isabelle Hupert with jury members Robin Wright Penn, James Grey to site a few and a bunch of other heavy weights in direction and acting lining up at the red carpet. Though, the global crisis seems to make its presence felt, with a cue down on the level of glitziness and charm quotient, but there were still spiralling queues to get a glimpse of their favoured stars on the red carpet. The mammoth race to the superlative prize awarded to competing films in the Cannes Film Festival, the Palme d’Or (meaning Golden Palm in French) is on its final leg. Heralding the Cannes’ election night is the long-winded 12 day long paraphernalia during which the jury and critics skim through all the movies vying for the coveted Palme d’Or. The 62th Cannes festival concluding on the 28th May, is being held in Palais which has its usual share of star power presence.
With no preceding awards like the Golden Globes, or the Guild Awards and the total annual jury change, it is no one’s guess as to who would emerge out the winner.
