Sony’s new no one comedy- horror movie Zombieland has topped the North American box office this weekend. Woody Harrelson the main lead in the movie and his biggest film opening of his career. Zombieland beat projections and crushed the two weeks dominance of children and family animated food-fest movie Cloudy with a “Chance of Meatballs” dropped the sale to second place.
Ruben Fleischer Director of Zombieland earned $25 million in its opening weekend over 3,000 theaters while Meatballs earned $15.8 million. For the third week in a row Sony, film top at the box office. Mercedes Sosa Argentine folk singer and activist known as the “Voice of Latin America” died at Buenos Aires hospital. She was 74 years old and was suffering from multiple organ failure since last month after entering the hospital. Her body will lie in state today at Argentina’s Congressional building.
Sosa worked together with artists and musicians including Joan Baez, Shakira and Argentina rocker Charly Garcia and produced 40 albums over her long career. Sosa won best folk album awards from the Latin Recording Academy in 2000, 2003 and 2006. Argentina rocker Charly Garcia proclaimed her as Argentina’s, “greatest voice” Most recent albums of Sosa, Cantora 1 has been nominated for three Latin Grammys awards counting album of the year and best folklore album. World famous music event Glastonbury festival is celebrating its 40th year in 2010. Tickets for 2010 have gone on sale. Organizer Michael Eavis said is trying to meet the line up of Blur, Neil Young, and Bruce Springsteen expectations for this event is high. Fans were able to buy tickets from Sunday onwards however; the registration system introduced in 2007 to overcome advertisers did not guarantee a ticket.
Last year fans were able to extend their registration for over three years said the spokesperson of that event. He added saying it was a good and open scheme. Ticketing system has been a huge success as he was aware all tickets were going to festivalgoers. However if fans are not sure about their previous registration of being valid, they can check through online. Film Director Roman Polanski arrested in Switzerland on a US arrest warrant as a guilty verdict of sexual assault with a 13-year-old girl. Polanski decided to pay the victim $500,000 fifteen years after he fled. In October 1993, director Polanski had agreed to have a confidential deal with the victim however, the court document does not reveal whether he had ever paid.
Later it was disclosed because of the struggle to get a filmmaker to pay. Court records in August 1996 stated Polanski owned Ms Geimer $604,416.22 including interest. Polanski was arrested in Switzerland as he traveled from France to collect a lifetime achievement award at the Zurich Film Festival. Screenwriter of Pulp fiction Roger Avary has been sentenced to jail for one year after killing a newlywed Italian human being in a drunken driving crash in California last year. Oscar winning writer appealed guilty in August to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and other charges curtailing from January 2008.
Andreas Zini was killed in the accident, which happened last year, and Avery’s wife injured. Roger Avary urged to the judge in the courtroom that this incident had overwhelmingly changed me from the core of my self-being. This accident happened in the city of Ojai, 80 miles northwest of Los Angeles. Judge Edward Brodie of Ventura County Superior court also sentenced Avary to five years of probation.
