Black Entertainment Television’s annual award show will relay live for the ninth time on June 28, 2009 from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Oscar winner Jamie Foxx is slated to host the award function after his latest investiture as guest coach on the famed ‘American Idol’. Jamie Foxx’s hottest number ‘Blame It’ from ‘Intuition’ has fermented pinnacle post on the Billboard’s R&B charts for more than three months.
Famed R&B veteran, The O’Jays will be saluted through the show by ‘The Lifetime Achievement Award’ being presented for commendable contribution in soul music. Musicians Wyclef Jean and Alicia Keys will be honoured with the Humanitarian Award for their individualistic involvement in altruistic causes. The precious flash moment during the BET 2003 awards when Michael Jackson astonished his icon, James Brown by turning up on the stage unexpectedly and later the duo belting out an enthralling performance, will be sorely missed this year. Both the legends of pop and soul are no more.
Michael Jackson, who has left an indelible mark on all including the BET Network whose 29-year record has evolved watching the child prodigy develop into a cult of sorts, through its innumerable relays of the pop star’s songs and videos. This year’s awards show will be devoted to Jackson with an apt tribute to his musical magnitude.
Many of the celebs due to perform at the show are stringent Jackson aficionados who have derived inspiration from the icon. R&B singer Maxwell, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Eminem are marked to belt out simmering performances this year. Diddy, Chris Brown, The Game, Mario Winans, Boyz II Men have jointly collaborated and come up with their song ‘Better On The Other Side’ to pay homage to Jackson. 50 Cent has also released ‘Where You Are’ along with G-Unit which pays tribute to Jackson.
Grammy winners Beyonce, Lil Wayne and T.I lead the gang with the maximum nominations in this year’s awards.
