After garnering success for many years in several countries abroad, Astro Boy, the animated film based on the lines of the original Japanese manga series by none other than Tezuka rightly called the ‘god of manga’ is set to grace giant screens on October 23, 2009.
Set in an ultramodern world where human beings and robots subsist, the movie trails along the explorative journey of the wee Astro Boy, purportedly called Astro (Freddie Highmore). An infantile robot possessing implausible prowess is the brainchild of a sharp scientist, Dr. Tenma (Nicholas Cage), who creates him as a look-alike of his bereaved son, Tobio. Dr. Tenma cares for Astro in much the same way as his own son, but soon comprehends by Astro’s incapability to age or illustrate many human characteristics, that he could not restore the emptiness of his lost son, Tobio.
Disheartened at not being able to match up to the mourning Tenma’s hopes Astro ventures on a wide-reaching expedition in a quest to uncover his rightful place in the world. During his grand voyage, he discerns the delights and the downfalls of being human as he is faced with a throng of bizarre robots. Astro Boy’s incredible undertaking is abruptly shortened when he comes to know that his near and dear ones are facing serious perils in Metro City.
As Astro Boy gets ready to go head on against his staunchest rival to salvage all that matters to him and seek reconciliation with the one person who rebuffed him, he soon comprehends that it is by triumph alone that he will eventually find out what goes into making a hero.
