The Hollywood couple par superlative clout and élan, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have recently pledged a munificent sum of US $ 1 million as donation towards assisting migrated Pakistanis.
Brangelina are coincidently good-will emissaries of UNHCR –United Nations Refugee Agency. The UNHCR venerates World Refugee Day annually on 20th June to conjugate mass public responsiveness towards the global refugee crisis. Varying locations and themes are used by UNHCR each year on the specified date to garner necessary aid and awareness.
Jolie who has been involved in the cause since 2001 has visited above 20 countries with the UN refugee agency where she has had one-on-one meetings with the inflicted crowds. Jolie has been known to strongly advocate the cause as nearly 80% of the refugees are women and children who face dire consequences. Her 30-second public service message which features Jolie who also has co-produced it with UNHCR has been airing in regular frequencies across key locations worldwide that has effectively earned mass viewership.
Brangelina with their perennial association to humanitarian causes globally, announced their beneficial monetary support to Pakistan this time, as it has been in the eye of the storm with a whooping 2 million immigrants being dislocated from their homes due to the utter mayhem being caused in the Swat area.
This year Jolie was seen present at the events held in the National Geographic Society, Washington DC, in association with the UN High Commissioner, Antonio Guterres, for helping out the Refugees to mark the day.
There have been marathons runs held in Hong Kong, Nepal, Sri Lanka to make the day memorable. A whirlwind of events like quizzes, song-dance shows, recitals have been taking place in many parts of the world to celebrate the day.
The International Rescue Committee has come up with the novel idea of holding quiz, in which by mere participation and clearing it, the IRC would provide aid like blankets, medical aid etc to the forcibly uprooted kind. For every person who is willing to take part, a kind donor will chip in $1 to hold up the IRC’s aim to touch their $15,000 goal and in turn help support a great cause.
